You can usually have the pressing done at a local machine shop. There is a tapered bearing and a roller bearing inside. (The bearing assembly halves are put together with a press!)Speaking of that, if the assembly co-operates and falls off it will have to be pressed apart. One of mine did, but the other.well it was so froze-up that my gear puller actually pulled the bearing assembly apart rather than pulling the whole assembly off. But not always! There are three bolts behind the backing plate that need to be removed, after which the entire spindle should simply fall out. THEY CAN BREAK EASILY so hold your mouth right! Now, the worst could be over. (metric size) CAREFULLY lift the sensor up and out of the well in the bearing housing. Now, BE CAREFUL, you now have to remove the abs sensor. Remove the brake caliper and hang it with some wire or whatever you have on hand. GOOD LUCK.Īfter removing the wheel, pop the dust cap off of the center of the spindle, revealing the front axle nut. I hope you understand, just watch what you are doing. When you put the axel back in, push it all the way in then slide the c-clip over the end of the axel and then pull out on axel and that will hold the clip in place untill you put the big long pin back in the carrier. Now get someone to push the axel in while you are looking at the 4 small gears in the housing, when they push the axel in a C-clip will fall off the end of the axel and into the rear end, You will see it fall out. ( DO NOT TURN ANYTHING AFTER YOU REMOVE THE PIN) are the spider gears will fall out. Remove that bolt then reach up in the rear end housing and push the pin towards you untill it comes out. If you look at the right side of the carrier were the pin goes through it you will see a small bolt head, That bolt goes through the carrier and holds the pin in place. Those will be 4 small gears in the rear end carrier. Then turn the carrier untill you see a big silver pin that goes through the spider gears. You will have to remove the rear end plate off of the back of the rear end. Install rear wheel speed sensor to carrier.Starting torque should measure 15.9 in lb (1.8 Nm) or less.Measure wheel bearing starting torque with a spring balance or equivalent device.Install 4 hub/bearing assembly bolts and rotate hub to seat bearing.Install hub/bearing assembly with rounded portion of outer race facing up.Use an appropriate tool to press tone wheel.Install flange nut and stake nut until it meets concave portion of spindle.Using and appropriate tool, press bearing into hub.ĭo not press against outer race of wheel bearing.Apply thin coat of grease to bearing contact surface and hub.Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable puller), remove inner race from axle hub.Support bearing outer race flange and press rear axle hub out.Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable gear puller), remove tone wheel.Dismount brake caliper and support with mechanic's wire.Remove rear wheel speed sensor from carrier. ![]() Hub & Bearing Removal & Installation To Remove:
